I’m very excited to share this news with you… I’m a winner of the first annual Texas Social Media Awards!

The Austin American-Statesman solicited nominations a few months ago and today announced the 25 final winners. And I’m one of those 25 people! According to the article about the awards, winners are “residents of Texas who are leaders in the growing field of social media.”

From the press release:

“It was tough to narrow the list down from 125 to this group of 25,” said Robert Quigley, the Internet editor and social media coordinator at the Statesman. “There were many great nominees. Every person on this list of 25 is a leader in social media not only in Texas, but in the nation. Texas has taken the lead in this fast-growing field, and these are the people who have made that happen.”

The Statesman’s Twitter efforts have gained national attention. The main account, @statesman, is one of the top 10 most-followed newspaper Twitter sites in the nation. The Statesman has more than 40 staff members tweeting the news.

There are some very smart and very interesting people on the list, so check them on out Twitter. I am honored to be in such excellent company. Be sure to come to the awards party on March 15!
