Countdown to South by Southwest Interactive 2009

Social software

South by Southwest Interactive 2009 starts in exactly three weeks!

Though SXSWi focuses mostly on the more technical aspects of the web, there are a ton of panels about the social parts of software.  This year, there aren’t many panels specifically about shopping or style, but there are a few that are related. Here’s a sample:

Marketing Meets New Media: Building Your Audience Online

This could be a good panel for those Etsyers out there. It’s all about building an online audience for your brand.

Twitter for Marketers: Is It Still Social Media?

Representatives from Dell and JetBlue will be talking about what it means to use Twitter and other social media for marketing purposes. Looks like I could learn some useful lessons for CheapTweet.

The Convergence of High-End Design, Fashion and Technology

This panel is a discussion of how personal tech devices have become style accessories (iPhone, anyone?). Sounds cool.

Collaborative Filters: The Evolution of Recommendation Engines

Engineers from Digg, Netflix and will talk about the ways their sites think about recommendations. This is interesting from a social shopping perspective, as recommendations are an important aspect of most online shopping experiences.

So, who’s going to SXSWi? I’ll be there and I’d love to meet up! It’ll be a stimulating, fun, social and completely exhausting time.

I’m working as an Interactive Panel Liaison with the folks from the last two panels you picked out – they should both be very good panels. I’m particularly psyched about Collaborative Filters, they’ve got a bunch of good names on it.

(As a side note: Jenn, did you see Archana is going to be on a panel – might be interesting for you:
