Where do you find your style inspiration?

Blogs, Style

Last week when I was trying to figure out what to wear with my new skinny black jeans, I did a ton of web research. I looked for pictures, blog posts, forum comments, articles, and whatever I could find to help me see what works (and what doesn’t work) with skinny jeans. This got me to thinking about how much I use blogs and other websites to find my style inspiration.  This applies to both what I wear and how I decorate my home – the two main ways I express my personal style.

I don’t read a lot of magazines or catalogs – I never have – and I don’t watch many style shows on television (aside from the occasional HGTV show at the gym). But I read tons of fashion and design blogs and am a member of multiple online communities centered around style. This is where I find my inspiration. The web has completely changed the way I learn about style.

I find it really useful to read about how other people create their styles. I love to know where people shop, what new items they buy each season, how they put an outfit or a room together.  I learn more from perusing the photos people upload to Wardrobe Remix than I ever do browsing the racks at the mall.

Since I’ve started participating in these communities and posting my own photos on sites like Wardrobe Remix and You Look Fab, not only have I learned a lot from seeing other people’s looks, but I’ve also gotten ll kinds of feedback on my own look.  Other site visitors can comment on the photos I upload and it helps me polish my look. It’s great – useful, fun, and interactive.

So where do you go to find your style inspiration? Do you prefer online media like these, or do you prefer something else, like magazines, TV shows, or in-person inspiration?
