A week into ZiteFight – What have I learned?

Social software, Style

ZiteFight has been public just over a week now. It’s been an incredibly exciting (and exhausting) week! Things are going well so far. We’ve been to a few parties promoting ZiteFight and gotten lots of excellent feedback from users. So I thought this would be a good time to think about a few of the things I’ve learned about style in the first week of ZiteFight.

  1. People have very different styles. In the weeks leading up to the launch of ZiteFight, I had to coax and cajole many of my friends and family members into providing me with a set of initial photos. That was difficult mostly because many of them felt they didn’t have any style.  They said things like “But I’ll never win” or “I’m just not that stylish.” I had to convince them that “being stylish” is a different thing from showing off your own style. And the early ZiteFight users have demonstrated that – we’ve gotten photos from people with all kinds of different styles! It’s great to see the wide variety of styles and subjects being submitted.
  2. People love to vote on stuff. I was hoping this would be true, since we’re basically counting on that to be successful, but it turns out that people really like to click on things. It’s very primal, to see two things and pick the one we like best. Visitors to ZiteFight are voting 25, 50, even hundreds of times in one visit. It is kind of addictive.
  3. It’s awesome to feel like other people like your style. I will readily admit that I get a thrill everytime I look at the leaderboard and one of my photos is in the top 25. It’s quite rewarding to know that other people think you or your living room or your car look great. Everyone likes to feel appreciated and checking out my fighters’ stats on ZiteFight really does make me feel appreciated.

Those are some of the biggest things I’ve learned this first week. I’m sure I’ll learn lots more over the next few weeks and months, and I’ll talk about them as they happen. Mostly though, I’ve learned how supportive and receptive the Austin tech community is. They’ve been some of our biggest fans and most frequent voters. So, thank you, Austin! Now time for the rest of the world to get on board.

If you haven’t tried it yet, go to www.zitefight.com and vote, upload a photo, and tell your friends!

Congrats, ZiteFight is way cool. I was monkeying around on it last week and having a ball (can’t believe it’s been a week!).

I’d love to play around with it some more when I get a min, tell Hayes he’s the man.

Before ZiteFight, I would not have considered what art I like, what photos I like, what rooms I like a part of my style. I think I was putting style into a very small box that included my clothing. It was a lot of fun to really pick what was my style. I’m not sure what it says about me that I want that Rhino, though.
